Review (x2): Cindy Koepp

Hey all!

I’m taking a brief break from NaNoWriMo and all this election madness to tell you about two of my recent reads: Remnant in the Stars and The Loudest Actions by Cindy Koepp.  She’s just kicking off a blog tour, and I’m really thankful to get to be a part of it.

Review of Remnant in the Stars:

As a lifelong Star Trek fan, there is a special place in my heart for stories set in space withremnantinthestars awesome alien species and discoveries of new people and things.  That may seem specific, but nevertheless, Cindy Koepp has officially entered that place.

Reading Remnant in the Stars was such a joy for me from start to finish.  I loved the diverse cast of characters, particularly Abbott and Sora.  The humor was spot-on, as were the emotional development and tense situations.  Even though it was set far in the future, Koepp’s writing made it believable which isn’t easy to doing when writing science fiction.

One of my favorite aspects, though, was how one character’s Christian faith was represented in the story.  This isn’t something that I’ve seen done much in science fiction, and I appreciated Koepp’s balanced hand with it.

Overall, Remnant in the Stars was a fun, well-written read.  Also, it had me weirdly invested over what the heck was wrong with Kirsten Abbott’s prosthetic arm.  I was hypothesizing all over the place.

Review of The Loudest Actions:

loudest_actions_coverI was excited to go on another adventure with my favorite characters in this sequel, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Without giving too much away from the first or the second book, The Loudest Actions had many of the same great characters in different situations, developing even further, and being awesome, real, and hilarious while doing it.

We got to dive further into Koepp’s imagination to meet a new alien species, and I absolutely love first contact stories, so that was an added bonus.  The Loudest Actions was truly a great follow-up to Remnant in the Stars.

You should obviously start with the first book, but I highly recommend both of these great reads.  They’re accessible, exciting, funny, and well-crafted.

  1. Hiyo!

Thanks for the reviews! I’m glad you enjoyed the tales. 🙂

I had fun writing them and exploring the situations and environments. Writing characters with my weird sense of humor was a blast!
